Shape-dependent regions for inertialess spheroids in turbulent channel flow

چکیده
The alignment between the inertialess spheroids and directions of fluid Lagrangian stretching or compression is sensitive to particles shape near wall but not center channel [Cui et al. “Alignment statistics rods with direction in a flow,” J. Fluid Mech. 901, A16 (2020)]. This observation further investigated current study uncover mechanism particle behavior different regions flows at Reτ≈180 1000. Meanwhile, by using probability distributions sign discriminant linear term Jeffery equation, we find that turbulent flow can be distinctly divided into strong weak shape-dependent regions. In region, slender (flat) have extraordinarily similar alignments (compression). However, these are shape, especially positions approaching wall. ranges rely on Reynolds number, equation useful tool distinguish turbulence regardless number.

متن کاملTurbulent Flow in a Micro-channel
Turbulent flow of water in a narrow gap of an emulsifier is investigated experimentally using micro-PIV (micro Particle Image Velocimetry) technique and compared with numerical predictions performed using the commercial code Fluent. The purpose of the investigations is to develop a procedure for wellcontrolled generation of mono-disperse suspension of micro droplets. These droplets will form a ...
متن کاملLagrangian statistics in turbulent channel flow
The Lagrangian dispersion of fluid particles in inhomogeneous turbulence is investigated by a direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow. Lagrangian velocity and acceleration along a particle trajectory are computed by employing several interpolation schemes. Among the schemes tested, the four-point Hermite interpolation in the homogeneous directions combined with Chebyshev polynomia...
متن کاملParticle-Interaction Effects in Turbulent Channel Flow
Large eddy simulation and a discrete element method are applied to study the flow, particle dispersion and agglomeration in a horizontal channel. The particle-particle interaction model is based on the Hertz-Mindlin approach with Johnson-KendallRoberts cohesion to allow the simulation of Van der Waals forces in a dry air flow. The influence of different particle surface energies on agglomeratio...
